The Paranoid Guide to Better Living: Rutgers (and Snooki) Further the Dumbing Down of America
And now your host, Paranoia:
This past Thursday, reality TV star Snooki (I’ve always wondered if she was named after a sea lion) spoke at Rutgers University before about 1,000 undergraduates. She talked about hair styling, gave out some lessons for life and generally was just who she is on television. Proof that American civilization is in a steep decline. Not only that, but she was paid $32,000 for the speech. Say what now?
Needless to say, some parents and students are rightfully pissed off. What could that over tanned little troll have to offer the next generation of slackers, workers and leaders? Most likely, not a damn thing. I’m betting she did a couple keg stands while she was there though. Rutgers defended their decision to have the Jersey Shore star speak with this idiotic statement:
“We have more than 200 events on our campus during the course of the year, everything from scholarly presentations to entertainment,” Rutgers spokesman Steve Manas said. “The students canvassed for who they wanted here and had the funds available.”
Perhaps it’s time Rutgers takes a look at their freaking entrance exam – morons need not apply. Reality television and the fame whores that it creates has a place in society, but that place should be right above short order cook, and right below the guy that parks cars for high class restaurants. Snooki, for me, ranks right above left over hash browns at a Waffle House.
Rutgers, just because the money is there doesn’t mean you have to waste it. Was it burning a hole in your pocket? And when did you poll the student body? Right after a kegger but before the orgy? The worst part of the whole thing is that Snooki got $2,000 more than Nobel and Pulitzer Prize winning author Toni Morrison will get when she speaks at graduation on May 15th. My advice to Toni, either ask for more money, or don’t do it all. They clearly don’t deserve your sort of class.
