Music: New releases of note for 2012

Now that the top 10 lists are out of the way, let’s take a look at what’s fresh for 2012.

This is generally a fertile time for indie-rock bands, starting with the reunited Guided by Voices and followed by new music from Craig Finn (of The Hold Steady), Magnetic Fields and The Shins, plus the much-anticipated sophomore albums from breakout duos Sleigh Bells and the Ting Tings.

Paul McCartney, Leonard Cohen and The Chieftains are all adding to their illustrious catalogs, while more than 80 artists are paying tribute to Bob Dylan.

IN THE NAME OF THE KING 2: Uwe Boll’s Latest Crapterpiece

‘Rama Rating: 1 out of 10

Notorious German director Uwe Boll returns to familiar stomping grounds in the Direct-to-DVD followup to 2006′s In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale with In The Name Of The King 2: Two Worlds, a fantasy action-adventure film that somehow manages to fall far short of its lackluster predecessor, its own source material and even the exacting storytelling and visual standards set by the average cable movie-of-the-week.

Yet it didn’t overwhelm the thinly sliced veal in it.

My son’s eggplant (“Melanzana alla Parmigiana,” $20.99) came in a tomato sauce that had been cooked for hours, a fact made evident by the sweet taste and buttery consistency.

Red Skull in the Avengers

With the script being leaked and the film being so close to being released it would look highly unlikely the Avengers movie could have any secrets.

We last saw the Red Skull (Hugo Weaving) at the end of Captain America : The First Avenger where he mysteriously gets teleported out of the crashing plane leaving Steve Rogers in the ice. Undoubtedly to return in one of the later Marvel movies.

From the current set of rumors it looks like the Red Skull will appear in the Avengers, this time not after just a cosmic cube to rule the world but the Infinity Gauntlet of Thanos with the power to rule the universe.
